World Theatre Day is more than just a celebration on March 27, 2025, for those of us who live and breathe the stage—it’s a reminder of the power of storytelling, the magic of performance, and the emotions that unite us as actors and audiences. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of being part of remarkable theatrical productions, especially at the City of Culture in the downtown Tunis. And this year, I reflect on two significant experiences: “Serenata (2022)” and “Aachiyt Chta (2024)”.

Serenata (2022): A Poetic Performance with Lotfi Najeh

In 2022, I took part in Serenata, a play that blended poetry, emotion, and dramatic expression. Directed by and featuring the talented theater artist Lotfi Najeh, Serenata was an immersive experience that challenged me both as an actor and as a storyteller.

Rehearsals were intense, filled with deep discussions about the meaning behind each line and movement. Lotfi Najeh’s artistic vision pushed us to explore new depths of expression, making every performance a unique experience. The play’s poetic nature required a balance between precision and emotional fluidity—something that tested and refined my abilities.

One of the most memorable moments was seeing the audience completely captivated, their expressions mirroring our emotions on stage. It was a powerful reminder of how theater connects us, transcending words and cultures.

Aachiyt Chta (2024): A Bold New Experience with Abdelkader Ben Said

Two years later, in 2024, I found myself immersed in a new theatrical adventure—Aachiyt Chta, directed by the renowned Tunisian artist and actor Abdelkader Ben Said. This production brought a fresh set of challenges and discoveries.

Unlike Serenata, which leaned on poetic expression, Aachiyt Chta was a more dynamic and intense performance. The direction of Abdelkader Ben Said was both demanding and inspiring, encouraging us to push the boundaries of our performances. The rehearsals were filled with energy, experimentation, and a relentless pursuit of authenticity.

Behind the scenes, we shared moments of exhaustion, laughter, and creative breakthroughs. Each rehearsal was a step closer to shaping a play that resonated deeply with the audience. The premiere was an unforgettable experience—the electricity in the room, the silence between the lines, the eruption of applause at the end.

World Theatre Day: The Power of Theatre – A Continuous Journey

These two productions, though different in nature, represent my ongoing journey in theater. Serenata taught me the beauty of poetic storytelling, while Aachiyt Chta pushed me to explore raw and intense emotions. Both experiences reinforced my passion for the stage and my belief in the transformative power of performance.

As I celebrate another World Theatre Day, I look forward to the next chapter—new stories to tell, new characters to embody, and new connections to forge with audiences. Because in the end, theater is more than just performance; it is a reflection of life itself.
